Joseph Greenberg

"Maine Coastline" 1972 | Monotype, Struck from Oil on Glass Plate on Museum Paper, 1 of 1 | Size = 18" X 23 3/4"

This extraodinary color monotype was created by master NYC artist Joseph Greenberg in 1972 during a year and a half-trip which included residency in Amsterdam with his wife and two daughters.  Greenberg was experimenting with a new technique and created over 600 of these exquisite large-scale color works, some of which were rescued during 2009.

This is an extremely rare abstract expressionist work and atypical of the 83 year-old artist's working style for most of his career oil on canvas.
