Tiffany Mueller"Haunted House" 2009 | Photograph Silver Gelatin Print No. 2 of 10 | Size = 10" X 10"On a recent cycling tour through central Florida, I laid over in Gainesville to photograph a musician who was playing a show in an abandoned church that had been converted into a rustic art gallery. Having a few hours to spare before the shoot, I threw a camera in my shoulder bag and set out on a walk. I didnt have to go far, just around the corner of the venue I came across this beauty. Having set eyes on it, I stopped in my tracks immediately and studied the structure in awe. As soon as the sun sank into the horizon I pulled out the camera and snapped this one & only shot. The house made such an impression into my mind and memory, I knew just one frame would be adequate. Little did I know I would end up spending the night in this house. Having a cup of tea to warm up, I made friends with a few locals at a tea house and joined them in a game of scrabble. They asked plenty of questions about my bike journey & when I told them I stopped in Gainesville to see a band, they mentioned that they lived very close to the gallery where the show was. I was grateful when they offered me a couch to sleep on & followed them back to their house to drop off my things before the show. Much to my surprise, I wound up back at this house. I didn't get an ounce of sleep that night. Every gust of wind on the window panes & creak of a floorboard and sent shivers down my spine. I was alive with excitement and my mind was reeling from the fortunate series of events that I had been offered. Needless to say, I hold this photograph very close to my heart.
