This painting is from the beautiful Rhine Valley, one of the major wine growing regions of Germany. Assmannhausen is a quaint little town on the banks of the Rhine. There is a trip called the Chair Lift in this town, which is a tour of the vineyards sitting on a cable car that’s nothing but an open chair. As we were descending in the cable car, it was near sunset and the bright sun shining over the ripe vineyards was a glorious sight to behold.

The typically German-styled houses in the middle of the vineyards added a lot of beauty to the landscape and it was a moment I simply wanted to freeze. The fact that it had sharp contrasting shadows just the way I love only strengthened my belief that it just had to be painted.
