Joseph Greenberg | New York, NY USA
Joseph Greenberg, a NYC native born in 1926, has been painting and documenting his favorite city since his first exhibition here in 1954.
Having learned his craft at The Art Student's League, Greenberg created an extensive series of large oil canvases depicting life in Manhattan, including stunning studies of the city at night and in near darkness. The artist spent a year with his family in Amsterdam in the early 70's, producing a collection of blazing color monotypes of European landscapes presented here.
A master of form, Greenberg pays tribute to his mentors like Rembrandt through paintings that vibrate with energy, light and shadow, depicting the interactions of human beings surrounded by the metropolis he loves.
Greenberg is currently actively painting and drawing, working seven days a week in his Union Square studio as well as his apartment nearby where he produces works on paper.
